Ahh yeah, I didn't think of bum wine. Never had Ripple but rode the Thunderbird and went of the rails with Night Train. Two bottles of the T-bozz will turn your tongue black.
There's a blog somewhere that reviewed all the gutter wines of America (maybe just bumwine.com). Apparently it's all made by Carlo and Julio Rossi (I think).
Here in Korea, a form of bum wine is the go to choice for rich and poor alike. Soju costs just over a buck a bottle, can be bought in light (16.5%) or standard (20%), and provides a high energy, erratic behavior drunk. The stuff is ubiquitous and in drinking areas public vomiting is an excepted social norm. I work in Kangnam in Seoul (yeah, THE "Kangnam Style" Kangnam), and when I go out there for b-days or work dinners I know you only got until about 11pm for dudes to crap or girls to sit down pee before all the facilities are coated or clogged with vom. By 5 am (there is no cut off time for bars in Korea) "street pizzas" dot the streets and sidewalks and by 6 droves of pigeons have come to feast and aid with the clean up. It's all fairly status quo.
